Being an Ally Isn’t a Side Quest — It’s Part of the Creator Journey

Pride Month isn’t just about visibility — it’s about building spaces where queer creators are heard, highlighted, and supported. Here’s how I’m showing up.

Every great story has its heroes. But not all of them wear capes. Some just show up — consistently, quietly, and without asking for credit. That’s what real allyship looks like.

As a creator — and someone building communities around storytelling and fandom — I’ve come to understand something important:

Being an ally isn’t a side quest. It’s part of the creator journey.

Why Pride Month Still Matters

I’m not queer. But I’ve been lucky to learn from those who are — online and off. Friends, collaborators, podcast guests, and people who’ve trusted me with their brilliance and their stories.

Their presence has made me a better creator. Their vulnerability has expanded my empathy. Their courage has challenged me to do more than watch from the sidelines.

Pride Month is a moment to reflect on all of that — and to recommit to showing up, not just in June, but all year.

Geek Spaces Are Queer Spaces

From fanfic to cosplay, from indie RPGs to YouTube deep-dives — queer creators have always been the beating heart of nerd culture. And still are.

So when I say The Geek Writer is a space for creators who geek out and build things — I mean that LGBTQ+ voices belong at the center of it. Not as tokens. As pillars.

I’m Building a Creator-Powered Pride List

This year, I want to do more than post.

I'm putting together a living public list of LGBTQ+ creators — writers, game devs, podcasters, artists, you name it — so I can highlight, amplify, and collaborate with you. Not just for Pride, but on an ongoing basis.

Or share it with someone whose work deserves more love.

This isn’t a one-time roundup. It’s a creator spotlight hub I’ll update regularly on The Geek Writer, and link to from everything else I do — including Geek Peek, donation streams, interviews, and more.

Looking Ahead: Donation Streams & Future Spotlights

This isn’t the last time I’ll talk about LGBTQ+ creators — or try to support them.

Throughout the year, I’m planning:

💸 Support received through The Geek Writer during June will be donated to these orgs:

To My LGBTQ+ Readers

You’ve always been part of the story.
You’ve helped build the worlds I love.
And you belong — in this space, on this platform, and in every conversation we have going forward.

Happy Pride.
And thank you for letting me be part of your orbit.
